About BBQ Kitch’n
In 1984 local restaurateur Jack Lewis took his youthful McDonalds training skills and opened up the Famous Sourdough Mining Co. BBQ Restaurant in Anchorage on Campbell Creek. For 35+ years slow mesquite cooked BBQ and its signature Korn Fritters with Honey Butter were served up at the old mill house and delivered all about Anchorage.
Over the years Jack hatched new restaurant ventures and one was a partnership with Humpy’s Alehouse founder Diane Thompson, who was retired and then un-retired along with a few believing investors, establishing the Firetap Alehouse restaurant at O’ Malley. As more years past the Sourdough Mining Co.’s aging building had mined its last ore cart and closed in 2017. Long and behold, which means a few brewsky’s and fine glasses of wine at the Firetap, Jack and Diane, yes, like the song, decided to relive Jack’s past and open the BBQ Kitchn. Some old and new recipes were discovered to provide all the excitement needed to kick start cooking some of the best traditional BBQ in “The Last Frontier”. So many Firetap Alehouse staff members and past Sourdough Mining Company Restaurant team members participated in this high tech ordering and takeout/delivery concept that it would read like a movie credits list, but with all of their help, we hope to deliver for you to enjoy, a BBQ eating experience from our team family to yours!
